Why do we place so much emphasis on collecting data directly from the field? Can't we just rely on design drawings and theoretical calculations? This section explore why field-collected data is unequivocally the cornerstone of any reliable and credible hydraulic model. We'll drive home the concept that these field measurements — actual pressures recorded at hydrants, flow rates measured in pipes, tank levels observed over time — offer the "ground truth."

This ground truth is what transforms your model from a mere theoretical construct, based on assumptions and estimates, into a trusted digital replica of your actual, operational network.
