Option analysis, costing, & phasing

✏️Course in Development

Just a heads-up—this section is still a work in progress! I’ll be revising and expanding it soon to make sure it’s as useful as possible. Curious about what’s already done or currently in the works? Check the changelog for updates.

Rarely is there only one single way to fix a future problem in your water system. More often, you'll find that multiple potential solutions, or combinations of different projects, could address the identified deficiencies. This is where option analysis becomes a critical part of the planning process.

This section covers how you can use your hydraulic model to compare the hydraulic performance of these different proposed solutions side-by-side. For example, would it be better to install one large new trunk main, or two smaller parallel mains? Is it more effective to build a new booster pumping station or a new elevated storage tank to serve a growing high-level area? Your model can help provide the hydraulic data to inform these choices.
