Source tracing analysis
Just a heads-up—this section is still a work in progress! I’ll be revising and expanding it soon to make sure it’s as useful as possible. Curious about what’s already done or currently in the works? Check the changelog for updates.
Many larger water systems don't rely on a single water source or treatment plant; they often receive water from multiple entry points into the distribution network. When this is the case, it can be incredibly useful to know, at any given point in the system, what percentage of the water originates from each of these specific sources. This is precisely what source tracing analysis allows you to do with your hydraulic model.
This section will explain the methodology behind this powerful technique and showcase its diverse applications. Imagine being able to visualize complex blending zones where waters from different sources mix, or to identify precisely which customers are predominantly served by a particular source.
